Parenting is not something that just happens. While it is true that our children will grow if provided with the essentials - food, water and shelter - these essentials alone are not enough to raise physically, socially, cognitively and emotionally well-adjusted adults. Effective parenting takes energy, creativity, determination, patience, love, sacrifice, hard work, dedication and commitment, and above all else, what you really need to know is that
PARENTING IS NOT CONVENIENT and KIDS ARE PEOPLE TOO!
There will be many times when your well laid plans will need to be set aside to attend to the needs of that little person that you are raising. It is unrealistic to expect that your child/ren will always be agreeable to go along with your plans or will recognize your schedule and needs. This sounds common sense as I am writing this and yet this is a common complaint I hear from parents. "Every time I go out the door I have to yell at my son three times that it's time to go" "My daughter wouldn't hurry up even though she knew I was late for work".
While this can be extremely frustrating and and leave us feeling exasperated and angry, there are ways to change things. If you would like to know how attend my free parenting group: Parenting - Toddler to Teen or contact me to book an individual session.
